What to do in Slovakia

Slovakia offers one several different options in being able to find the right kind of entertainment and events that are one of a kind. There are several events that are special to Slovakia. You will find hordes of cultural events and festivals. There are sports and music events and all of these put together. There are several events whose dates if you know of you can choose to be in Slovakia during that time. The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava is held every year in autumn and attracts tourists from all over the world. It is a one of a kind event in the entire world and it is the greatest showcase of children and youth literature in the world. After you have attended these events and festivals you can consider the other really touristy stuff.

Take yourself shopping for souvenirs that are as varied as pottery, porcelain and wood carvings. There are several wonderful local products to shop for as you soak in the sun and walk down the old part of town. There are several different buildings with amazing architecture to be noted as you stroll down downtown. Most of these buildings have an amazingly wonderful façade that will transport you to times gone by. There is the Beggar’s Building. Then, there is Jacob’s Palace. The insider of the building is as wonderful as the architecture outside. There is the Dominican Church which is the oldest building in this part of town. It is an impressive church and you will love the paintings and statues that are found inside. The other buildings to look at are the State Theater, Urban Tower, St. Michael Chapel, District house, Town Hall and other buildings. The best of festivals can be witnessed out here right from New Years Day which is celebrated big time in the country. There is a whole lot of wonderful music and merry making with lots of delectable local cuisine to be had. April is the International Day of the Roma which celebrates the arrival of the gypsies and there is a whole lot of traditional dance and song to it. In May, there is the celebration of Blugrass Bratislava Festival. This is with local bands and a whole lot of drinks, food and music. If you are a foodie then you will thoroughly enjoy the food and drink festival as well.

July has the Folklore festival, August the Slovak National Uprising anniversary September sees the Bratislava Music Festival which attracts people from all walks of life. October has the most awaited Slovakian wine Festival and November has a regional Argo tourism festival that is steeped in culture. December sees the best celebration of Christmas in the most fantastic of ways. Therefore, once you get yourself to Slovakia you are bound to have a whole lot of things to do. You will never ever hear anyone say in Slovakia that they are bored as there are several wonderful options to enjoy and be a part of. And if you find yourself being the one exception, doing a touristic day trip to neighbor Hungary is a recommendation!
